plazaPOPS Land Acknowledgment: January 15, 2025

Guided by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt, the people that make up plazaPOPS recognize our collective responsibility to this land: to take only what we need, leave enough for others, and keep the dish clean.

Though our ancestors come from different parts of the world, and our migration varies, our interconnected roots and histories connect us to grounded wisdom, reminding us that every action ripples through seven generations.

We acknowledge that our work takes place on the traditional territory of
many Indigenous nations, most recently the Wendat, Haudenosaunee, and Anishinaabe – a land that has been stewarded for time immemorial, now known as Tkaronto/Toronto and Ondario/Ontario, where trees stand in
beautiful waters.

We arrive at this work with gifts to share: we are students and teachers, storytellers and translators, creators and facilitators – bringing our unique gifts to bridge knowledge, culture, and truth across cultures, generations, geographies. Our roles interweave: listening, learning, creating, and transforming.

We recognize that our struggles are inter-connected, and our gifts are opportunities to remove obstacles and create pathways for Indigenous communities to shape their desired world.

We honor the resilience of Indigenous communities who have survived centuries of colonization and genocid —a history of displacement, subdivision, and erasure. Despite profound injustices, these communities continue to thrive, teach, and transform.

Like the chicory and dandelion breaking through an asphalt parking lot, we see possibilities of resistance and healing. Through our community led transformations, we commit to:
● Actively incorporating Indigenous perspectives
● Fostering stewardship and environmental sustainability
● Building bridges of mutual respect
● Creating spaces of healing and connection

We are committed to action beyond symbolic acknowledgement, using our collective gifts to nurture understanding, connection, hope, distributing resources and powe
